FOUNDER’S STATEMENT

As the founder and Chief Executive Officer of this Research and Business Consultancy Company, I take great pride in sharing my journey, motivation, and the guiding philosophy that led to the establishment of this organization. My academic path and professional experiences have deeply shaped both the vision and mission of this firm, and I believe it is essential to offer a transparent and detailed account of the inspiration and intellectual foundation that supports our work.

My academic journey began in Somalia, where I earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from SIMAD University, one of the most respected institutions in the country.

This foundational stage was critical in developing my interest in business, economics, policy, and institutional development within the Somali context. SIMAD provided me with not only theoretical knowledge but also an awareness of the structural and operational challenges faced by both the public and private sectors in fragile economies such as Somalia’s. It was here that I began to understand how essential research is in shaping effective policy and making sound business decisions. Following my undergraduate studies, I expanded my academic and professional exposure by pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Lincoln University College in Malaysia. This international experience provided a global outlook on business strategy, innovation, and management. Studying in Malaysia—a rapidly developing economy with strong links between education, research, and industry—further solidified my belief in the transformative power of research in nation-building. I began to see how research drives market efficiency, institutional development, financial growth, and, ultimately, national progress. These observations deeply influenced my desire to bring similar transformative frameworks back to Somalia.

Driven by a passion for rigorous research and advanced knowledge, I proceeded to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Annamalai University in India, with a specialization in Financial Management particularly in the area of Business Management. My doctoral work offered me the opportunity to explore research in its most refined and academic form. I gained proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and a deeper appreciation of financial systems and institutional performance. It also allowed me to engage in comparative studies between African and Asian financial institutions—experience which significantly broadened my analytical capabilities and regional understanding.

Throughout my academic career, I have published six original research articles—each of which reflects my commitment to addressing key economic and financial issues in Africa. My first publication, “The Credibility of the Somali Central Bank: Independence, Transparency, and Accountability,” explores the institutional challenges and structural limitations of Somalia’s financial governance and recommends practical steps toward credibility and reform. This paper was born from my desire to see a more functional and trusted central financial authority in Somalia—an institution that could one day anchor sustainable economic growth.

Other notable publications include “A Study on Performance of Financial Institutions in Uganda,” Tanzania, Ghana, and a comparative work on Five Sub-Saharan African Countries: Kenya, Rwanda, Namibia, Nigeria, and Senegal. These studies examined institutional access, depth, efficiency, and stability, policy impact, and the intersection between governance and finance in emerging economies. The findings not only contributed to academic discourse but also provided real-world recommendations for improving financial oversight, customer access to services, and regulatory frameworks. My work is frequently cited in discussions concerning Sub-Saharan financial performance, and I have presented my findings to academic and development institutions across the region.

I also authored a full-length research report titled “Somali Remittance, Prices, and Corridors,” which provided an in-depth analysis of Somalia’s informal but vital financial network—the remittance system. This report, which was widely shared among NGOs, international agencies, and policymakers, highlighted the socio-economic impact of remittances on household consumption, investment, and poverty reduction in Somalia. It remains one of my proudest contributions, given its relevance to the livelihoods of millions of Somalis both at home and in the diaspora.

In addition to being a researcher, I also serve as a reviewer for over 20 academic journals, and I am a recognized member of the Web of Science and ORCiD. These roles reflect my ongoing engagement in academic quality assurance, peer review, and knowledge dissemination. I believe that science must be rigorous, ethical, and relevant—and I bring these values into every consultancy project we undertake at the firm.

Today, I serve as a lecturer at two esteemed Somali universities—Hormuud University and the University of Somalia (UNISO)—where I teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in the fields of business, economics, and research methodology. My engagement with academia allows me to remain grounded in current debates, emerging theories, and the learning needs of future leaders in Somalia. It also enables me to mentor the next generation of researchers and business professionals, many of whom go on to become our clients, collaborators, and policy influencers.

The decision to establish this Research and Business Consultancy Company was a natural progression in my journey. Having accumulated extensive academic training and research expertise, I recognized a profound gap in Somalia’s institutional landscape—a lack of reliable, research-based consultancy services tailored to local realities. Whether in the public sector, private enterprise, or civil society, decision-makers often operate with insufficient data, unclear models, or outdated strategies. This gap inspired me to create a platform that merges academic rigor with practical application.

At the heart of our company is a belief that research is not just for academia—it must be democratized and applied in service of community, commerce, and governance. We provide services in applied and basic research, business documentation, feasibility studies, market assessments, strategic modeling, and more. Our firm is designed to help Somali stakeholders make informed decisions—whether it’s a government developing a new policy, an SME planning for expansion, or an NGO evaluating the success of a donor-funded project.

We work across a variety of sectors: business, education, governance, development, and administration. We assist clients in understanding their operational challenges, their markets, their opportunities, and the broader economic ecosystem they operate in. Every service we offer is grounded in local understanding, global standards, and ethical integrity. Our goal is to translate complex ideas into simple, actionable strategies that improve institutions, uplift communities, and drive sustainable development.

This company is not just a business venture for me—it is a lifelong mission. It is an embodiment of my academic achievements, my professional convictions, and my commitment to the future of Somalia. Through this platform, I aim to promote a research culture that is accessible, strategic, and transformative. I want to contribute to a Somalia where decisions are driven by data, institutions are accountable, businesses are competitive, and policies are people-centered.

Our impact is measured not just in reports delivered or strategies implemented, but in the real change we enable—an entrepreneur starting a new business with confidence, a university enhancing its research output, a ministry creating policy based on empirical data, or a community benefiting from better-targeted services.

Looking ahead, I see this consultancy growing into a national hub for research excellence, business innovation, and policy support. We aim to build local partnerships, collaborate with international agencies, and nurture a new generation of Somali researchers and consultants. We want to show the world that Somalia is not just a recipient of development aid—but a generator of ideas, talent, and locally grounded solutions.

In conclusion, this company stands on a foundation built by years of academic pursuit, research excellence, and professional integrity. I am proud to lead a team of thinkers, analysts, and advisors who share a common belief: that knowledge, when properly applied, can transform societies. Together, we are not only building a consultancy—we are building a better Somalia.
